About Me

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Howdy! I'm Ulysses, just some guy who loves poetry a little too much. This is a poetry blog though, so I'd like to think you guessed that already. Other fun facts about me are that I'm a Michigan resident (go blue!), I was born on Halloween, and I really like all sorts of art media.

Films and music are my two favorite forms of art/media, and my favorite films include American History X, Pi, Fight Club, Parasite, and both Blade Runner movies. Music-wise I'm pretty all over the place; I really really enjoy Radiohead, Billie Eilish, Muse, Rage Against the Machine, Tame Impala, and System of a Down, but I tend to like a lot of music from almost all genres. I'm also a classically trained violinist, so I enjoy classical music a lot too, particularly Shostakovich and Liszt.

Some last few notes are that I'm a dog person (cats are cool though, I'm just allergic), avid believer of cereal-before-milk, love going out on walks, adore birds, and I'm always looking for the nearest ramen joint.

Now then, poetry. I wrote my first poem about three years ago, and ever since I've always found a unique sense of comfort when writing it. I've tried my hand at novels, short stories, music, and found all of these forms of writing much more frustrating, and in general I've always had trouble finding a good voice when writing these types of media. That doesn't mean I'm giving up on any of them; practice always helps. That being said though, poetry is my favorite artistic niche, not just in the end products, but also in the satisfaction of crafting a poem. None of the poems you'll find on this page will be perfect, but I do hope you find some sort of inspiration or wonder in these poems, and hopefully even a sense of growth or change. I appreciate you sharing any of these poems, and hope you enjoy them.
